CSIR Day Seven

Our task today involved discussing and designing our story board for the project, we decided to design it in PowerPoint so we plan to put into motion as soon as we get clarification from our project leaders. I also worked on editing some of work we've submitted in our deliverables so far,Xoliswa noted that in most of our examples we concentrated more on technologies that were more business centred so we had to adapt them to the CSIR and the work that would be carried out in the Research Impact Area (RIA) such as Energy.

I made the following changes to the Research 2.0 part: Researchers can also benefit from online aggregation of all information in the sense that work or findings are available to them in a digital format and is therefore easy to locate and use, these tools enable mass interaction which is important for scientists as they can interact and easily exchange new data and information with their peers in the Energy RIA for example. NanoInfoline(shown below) is a great example of how Research 2.0 tools can be used to benefit an organisation, it was started by graduate students of Chemistry, Physics, Material Science and Engineering, who had a vision to bring all Nano-scientists to one platform in order to encourage discussions and understanding among the community. It is an open portal that provides all current research papers categorised and listed in the various relevant research fields within the topic of Nanoscience and Technology; it provides a more efficient way for research to keep up-to-date with the latest research literature such as journals and research papers, a link to add comments is also provided which allows users to leave comments or questions.

I also added this extra information to the 2Collab section which explains more on what the software is capable of: 2Collab is a tool developed by Elsevier and is used as a collaboration platform for science, research and medicine professionals. It allows the sharing of resources, bookmarking, and creation of groups as well as collaboration. (2 collab, 2010). It is an online bookmarking tool and also a reference manager, that allows researchers to build and manage their link libraries from any computer but also export their resource links ready for inclusion in project documents or articles. You can also use 2collab groups to create a centralised bibliography of resources for the Energy RIA members. Lastly it is a great way of sharing the combined knowledge of ones colleagues and library members in one place, the software is open source .

Well that's all for today more tomorrow...
